Glass Recycling
In an effort to keep more recyclables out of our landfill, in late 2011 Davis Iron & Metal began a program to bring glass recycling to our area. We accept all colors of glass, but we do not take double-paned glass or mirrored glass. The recycled glass is used to make new glass bottles and fiberglass insulation. For every truckload of glass we recycle, Owens Corning donates new insulation to be used by non-profit organizations in our community.
Davis Iron & Metal has a drop-off location for glass in our parking lot for after-hours glass (and aluminum can) recycling, though you will not be paid for these drop-offs. When dropped off inside during business hours, we will pay a penny per pound of glass.
When you recycle glass, you give back to the environment by providing materials that would need to come from natural resources. To put it into perspective, a six-pack of recycled beer bottles produces enough fiberglass insulation to fill a standard wall cavity. Glass can be recycled over and over again with increasing benefits to the environment at each recycling. Recycling glass only takes 30% of the energy that is required to produce new glass from raw materials.
